ROK-ASEAN relations
The Republic of Korea first established sectoral dialogue relations with ASEAN in November 1989. Since then, ASEAN and the Republic of Korea have cooperated with each other in multidimensional areas encompassing the three pillars of ASEAN Community. In particular, the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement (AKFTA) went into effect in 2007 and the ASEAN-Korea Centre was established in 2009. The ASEAN-Korea relation was elevated from comprehensive cooperation to a Strategic Partnership in 2010 as the relationship deepened and broadened.
KCS activities
ASEAN-ROK Customs DG/Commissioner Consultation
KCS is strengthening cooperative relations with ASEAN customs administrations through the annual ASEAN-ROK Customs DG/Commissioner Consultations. The meeting is conducted in the form of a dialogue during the Meeting of the ASEAN Customs Directors-General. Customs DG/Commissioners exchange views on the Korea-ASEAN customs administrative issues and discuss the measures for customs cooperation.
CCC-ROK Customs Consultation
KCS is also cooperating with ASEAN customs administrations in the working level by having regular consultation with Coordinating Committee on Customs (CCC). Customs officers from ROK and ASEAN member states review the cooperation between KCS and ASEAN customs administrations and discuss about current international issues.
